There are many common misconceptions on what makes a serial killer. There is also a belief that H.H. Holmes was not the first serial killer but the macabre distinction actually belongs to gunslinger, John Wesley Hardin. Perhaps the most well known misconception in the study of murderers is Charlie Manson. The crimes in which Manson was connected and convicted of being apart of, he did not physically take part. He did however orchestrate the horrific slayings in which Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkle, Linda Kasabian, and Tex Watson carried out in 1969. It is these crimes however that inspired in the writers of the movie, Annabelle in creating a backstory for the demonic doll housed in the Warrens Museum of the Occult in Connecticut.
